11.04.2026 - Animas Water Company's Water is SAFE to drink

Over the past few hours, we have been receiving many calls regarding the quality of Animas Water Company’s water.

The staff of AWC feels it is extremely important to convey to our members that our water is safe to drink. Our water system has not experienced any system wide pressure loss, and we have maintained our disinfection levels in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) requirements and EPA guidelines. We have also proactively submitted special purpose water samples to the La Plata County Public Health Department to ensure we are monitoring our water quality in real time.

We would also like to ensure you know that by law, Animas Water Company is required to notify the public immediately, but no later than 24 hours after learning of any violations and situations that can cause serious adverse health effects.
